Apple to announce Apple Watch 2, new iPhone in March: Report Apple to announce Apple Watch 2, new iPhone in March: Report

Apple may already be gearing up to launch a second version of its Apple Watch in the New Year, according to a new report.

Citing sources “with knowledge of the plans,” Apple news site 9to5 Mac reported Wednesday that the company is planning an event in March where it would likely unveil the Apple Watch 2 and possibly an iPhone 6C.

According to a previous 9to5 Mac report, the new Apple Watch model is rumoured to include new health sensors, sleep tracking technology and even a camera for video chatting. The iPhone 6C is rumoured to have a 4-inch screen and feature colourful plastic casing, similar to the iPhone 5C.

Apple has not commented on the report.

In September, the company unveiled a new batch of Apple Watch models, including new gold and rose gold Sport edition models and a mid-range Apple Watch black body with a Sport band. But the Apple Watch was originally announced in March.

However, rumours of a possible iPhone announcement in March fall well outside the company’s normal production schedule. Apple usually unveils its latest iPhone’s during its annual September press event – in fact, the company just released the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus three months ago.

Apple still won’t say how many smartwatches it has sold since introducing the new product.

In October, the company said it had $3 billion in revenue from its “other products” category, which includes the watch, the iPod music player, Beats headphones and the recently upgraded Apple TV. That’s up from $2.6 billion in the June quarter, when IDC estimates Apple shipped about 3.6 million watches.
