BY ENTERING a simple code on your iPhone, you will be granted access to hidden information and will be able to make changes to the private settings.
The largely hidden feature is called ‘Field Mode’ and will give you access to additional information about how your phone is connected to the internet.
To activate, enter *3001#12345#* and then press the call button. Your screen will turn grey before showing the hidden information.
Among the features of Field Mode is a detailed signal strength indicator, which is displayed in the top left corner of your screen.
The feature will give you a scale to represent the strength of your smartphone’s reception.
The scale ranges from -40 all the way through to -140.
Anything above -80 is the equivalent to full bars, anything below -110 represents zero reception.
If you decide you would prefer to use this feature instead of the dots used to reflect single strength, hold down the power button until a message to turn off your phone appears.
If you now press the home button, the feature will be enabled.
To switch between the two displays, simply press on where they are located on your home screen.
However, this is not the only code that will grant you access to hidden information.
This code will show the status of your call barring settings — a feature that restricts certain types of outgoing calls.
You can turn this tool on and off by entering *33*pin# and #33&pin#.
This code will tell you if call waiting is enabled — a feature that allows your phone to alert you if someone is trying to contact you while you’re already on a call.
You can turn this tool on and off by entering *43# and #43#.
This code will bring up your IMEI identifier number — a unique 15-digit number assigned to all cellular devices that can be used to shut down your phone remotely if it stolen.
